Product presentation at the VDI Transmission Congress

Innovative switching elements from HOERBIGER for more efficient hybrid and electric drives

New design scope and additional efficiency for modern hybrid and electric drives are made possible by three product innovations presented by HOERBIGER at the VDI Transmission Congress in Bonn: The SlimLINE synchronizer saves installation space and weight and opens up new design options in terms of lightweight construction, hybridization, and shifting comfort. The innovative shift elements TorqueLINE Twin Cone and TorqueLINE Disconnect Clutch create significant efficiency advantages for electrified drives by reducing drag losses.

Slimline synchronization creates space for hybrid drives

The HOERBIGER SlimLINE synchronizer is up to 20 percent slimmer than classic systems, while maintaining the same high performance. Developers can use the installation space savings for additional elements needed in hybrid drives. Ideally, the space saved makes it possible to integrate the additional electric motor for hybridizing the drive. At the same time, the compact transmissions weigh up to 20 percent less, which has a positive effect on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The newly gained design scope for hybrid drives thanks to HOERBIGER synchronizers also convinced the expert jurors of two industry competitions: In June, the SlimLINE received the award as the winning product of the German Innovation Award in the Automotive Technologies category. In addition, the jury of the Steel Innovation Award selected the HOERBIGER SlimLINE and DCT-Type synchronizer among the best steel products.

Innovative switching elements for electrified drives

In addition, HOERBIGER will present newly developed shifting elements at the VDI Transmission Congress that make electrified drives more efficient.

The TorqueLINE Twin Cone replaces classic multi-plate clutches and thus manages to reduce drag losses by up to 90 percent. The system has a high power density and reduces actuation forces by up to 60 percent. Due to its modular design, the innovative shifting element is suitable for covering different torque requirements. Thanks to its compact design, the system is easily compatible with a conventional multi-plate system: The TorqueLINE Twin Cone has the same dimensions, interfaces and lubrication behavior as a conventional multi-plate clutch system.

The second newly developed shifting element, the TorqueLINE Disconnect Clutch, optimizes drag losses by combining a classic multi-plate clutch with an integrated cone clutch for disconnection. The system utilizes the positive characteristics of a multi-plate clutch while reducing drag losses by up to 95 percent. In addition, the TorqueLINE Disconnect Clutch features high load capacity and easy controllability as well as full powershift capability.
